THQ expands their sci-fi real-time strategy game WARHAMMER 40,000 DAWN OF WAR with the Winter Assault addition, which includes new single-player campaign missions and a new playable race, the Imperial Guard. The Imperial Guard faction is allied with the Space Marine faction, but unlike the Space Marines, the Imperial Guard units tend to be more like average solders than a special ops unit. For this reason, players will notice they are more naturally a defensive faction. They can build bunkers, create underground tunnels, and repel enemy forces with flamethrower units. To counter the Imperial Guard’s low moral, new leader units can be created to improve moral by different ways, such as by executing the weakest soldier in the unit as an example to others. Each of the other factions receives new units and structures as well. The ten new single-player missions follow either the side of order (the Imperial Guard and the Eldar) or the side of chaos (the Chaos Space Marines and the Orks). There are five missions for each side, some of which overlap, giving players the chance to see the same event from different points of view. For example, while playing the order missions, the Imperial Guard may have to provide escort to high-ranking officers, while during the chaos missions, the player will have to capture these officers with their Ork forces. Fans of the WARHAMMER 40,000 series will be thrilled with the new units, faction, and missions the Winter Assault expansion adds to the WARHAMMER universe.
